The Struggle to Success; Being Unrecognised in a Corporate Environment

I got asked on a podcast last week what struggle meant to me.

I shared my story of struggling to be recognised in a corporate environment, here it is!

A few years ago, a colleague of mine needed some marketing support on a new programme they had created.

It was going to be difficult; attracting a new audience that didn’t usually respond to our message and that we didn’t usually work with.

I attacked the campaign with a gusto and strength in my conviction of a marketing professional!

But despite my advice and data-backed evidence of what not to do in a marketing campaign, my colleague forced me to do it their way anyway. The campaign crashed and burned into a pile of rubble.

Of course, it was all my fault!

I was arguing with this person for what seemed like weeks to let me do it my way after the campaign yielded zero results day after day.

I was driving 90 minutes home every night raging about it all.

One day, I sat in my car in Bristol and cried all the way home to Exeter. The struggle of being so unseen by this person had finally got to me.

As soon as I stepped over the threshold of my house, I knew something had to change. I knew that this couldn’t be my struggle any more. I knew that I had to only work with people who actually recognised me for the talents I have.

I bounced out of my cycle of victimisation and vowed from that day forward, that I would only work with those who recognised me and invited me to work with them on their projects.

This is why I became a coach. I get to choose my clients because they choose me.

In Human Design, this story is an all too familiar one with the HD type: Projector. Our strategy in life is to wait to be recognised and invited, and when we’re not, we can often feel like we are banging our heads against a brick wall trying to get through to people that we have the answers.  We are designed to see what needs fixing, see the gaps and how to plug them, and see deep into systems and people more than anyone else in this world. We are also the most efficient type in Human Design and will always see the quickest route to success.

With this knowledge, I have been able to create a life for myself where I have the conscious awareness that I am only here for the right person to recognise me. I know that not everyone will see my talents; in fact I’m quite used to people looking right through me, not hearing me or just not understanding me at all.

It’s great to release this pressure from myself that I’m not for everyone and that when I shine my light, there will be people who see me.

To those of you who I have worked with and who see my talents; thank you!

To those of you who don’t see me, I’m just not your person 😊
